Intermediate Planner Opportunity
Kirkor Architects & Planners is a multi-faceted architectural design and planning firm with an award winning reputation for design excellence and client service. We are a highly collaborative, partner driven team of about 60 architects, designers, planners, technical and support staff working on projects across North America and around the world.
The Kirkor Partnership has grown out of our very important core staff over the last few years, and we embrace the development of long-term professionals. Currently, Kirkor is seeking an Intermediate Planner who is interested in building an exciting and challenging career with us.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and clearly understand a detailed inventory of planning documents and guidelines as they are adopted by the various municipalities; inform project design teams regarding the impact of policy changes on projects.
- Represent Kirkor as liaison with city or town Municipal Planning, Urban Design departments, and Municipal Planning Authorities (MPAs) in relation to projects.
- Assist the project architect to coordinate and prepare the necessary documentation to inform our planning applications, including but not limited to drawings and reports, as required from both Kirkor and larger, multi‐discipline design teams.
- Anticipate and advise on key issues and raise those identified by colleagues and MPAs.
- Track the development, timing, and progress of resolutions by the Kirkor and consultant teams.
- Coordinate necessary documentation to inform planning applications, including but not limited to drawings and reports, as required from Kirkor and multi‐discipline design teams.
- Coordinate Site Plan Approval meetings and negotiate on behalf of Kirkor and clients.
- Review, provide feedback, and track the progress of OPA / ZBA drafts as prepared by others.
- Analyze and report on conformity requirements regarding Official Plan and Zoning Bylaws from municipalities within and outside of Ontario.
- Mentor junior planners through knowledge transfer and coaching.
Mandatory Criteria
- Architect and/or professional planner license, or able and willing to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience.
- Experience and familiarity with municipal approvals workflow and processes, particularly within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
- Experience with large, multi-disciplinary design and engineering teams.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- The ability to travel to and present at meetings throughout the GTA.
