These 16 and 21-storey towers are the last of a five-building plan for Avonshire, a residential development at highway 401 and Yonge Street. Our design team began with the idea of an urban classic building, where residents would feel as if they lived downtown but with the increased space of uptown. The concept of the Burberry check was used to achieve variations in colour that would give the building a specific look without drowning it. The towers, with two-storey podium, are linked by an 8-storey building housing amenities including spa with full treatment facilities, pool and steam room. The design was enthusiastically approved by the North York City planning department.
The 477-unit project aims for LEED Silver, and has green roofs covering more than 50% of roof area, a centrally located community park, significant bicycle parking and shuttle bus service to a nearby transit hub. The project is over 25% more energy efficient than the Canadian standard. |
