MASTER PLANNING
Markham Uptown
Greater Toronto | Ontario

As a result of major design charettes and extensive public consultation, the project vision was to create a gateway landmark based on the large scale and size of development for the Town of Markham. Situated on over 55 acres of land, 20 acres of which will be public parks, the full project represents 5 million sq. ft. mixed use living, working, entertainment, lifestyle experience integrated into the community. The project boasts the introduction of new north-south public streets providing vistas and connection to main arterial roads and public parks and valley lands. Six to eight storey podium-built forms create the urban activated street front along Hwy 7. The blocks culminate and frame the street front along the valley lands in three to six storey green roof podiums with 12 to 18 storey point towers delineating the south edge of the valley lands like New York’s 5th Avenue does to Central Park. This achieves the density with minimized impacts to the sightlines and sun shadows.

Live-work, retail and townhouse entrances express the human-scaled nature activating the street fronts. A hierarchy of different types and height of point towers define the key intersections and street corners of the project whose main entrances accentuate the terminal vistas lines.
