| One Old Mill has been described as an elegant hideaway – nestled between the charm of Bloor West Village and the green lined canopy of Humber Valley – however it also defines a number of axial vehicular and pedestrian routes around the site which captures the urban nature of the proposed development. The mass of the building cascades down towards the Humber Valley providing secluded green terraces, while providing a bold vision of Bloor Street that reinforces the urban design principle that the front façade remains an important contributing element along the natural axial corridor leading towards the Humber bridge to the west. The façade along Bloor Street steps back to provide a series of natural breaks in the rigorous treatment of the contemporary structure of the buildings form. The interplay between the clean horizontal and vertical lines of the outer shell play with the fine shadows created in the recesses that reveals a building that stands out in a neighborhood known for its eclectic mixture of rhythm in its architecture. |
