A 2-million S.F. Opera House, Museum, Theatre and Commercial Centre
Project Challenges:
Kirkor was pre-qualified to compete in this internationally sponsored competition to create a unique design for the Shenzhen Poly-Cultural Plaza in Shenzhen China. The project contained over 2-million sq. ft. of development comprised of an Opera House, Museums, Galleria, Retail Commercial Centre, Theatre Complex and new Urban Park. The site was a completely new, redeveloped city block with projected future developments surrounding it. Kirkor’s submission went from one of many, to one of ten to one of five and subsequently to one of two finalists.
Kirkor Solution:
Kirkor’s concept for this project was to create a clear, identifiable, elegant organization of building components around which all activities could be aligned and interconnected. The Centre of this design was the concept for the Opera House, which contained our vision of the outer Gemstone and the inner Pearl. The outer Diamond has been designed as a futuristic matrix of triangular forms complete with its translucent, illuminated onyx skin. The inner Pearl pierces the outer shell with a waterfall feature bridging through the entrance creating an opening porthole and establishing the procession to the facility. |
